Email is one of the most effective marketing tools for family entertainment venues. With open rates in this industry averaging 25–30%, email gives you a direct line to your guests, without relying on social media algorithms.
But no email gets opened without a great subject line. It’s the very first impression, and often the only thing your audience sees before deciding to click, ignore, delete, or worse, mark as spam. And when one email can lead to a party booking worth $650 (the 2025 industry average, according to Aluvii), that single line of text becomes a powerful revenue driver.

Subject Lines, Opens, Clicks, and Conversions—What’s the Difference?
It’s easy to confuse open rates, click-through rates (CTR), and conversions. Here’s the breakdown:
- Subject Line → Affects open rate (did they open your email?)
- Email Content → Affects CTR (did they click a button or link?)
- Offer & Experience → Affects conversion (did they book, buy, or RSVP?)
If your subject line doesn’t connect, the rest doesn’t matter.
Open Rate Formula:
Open Rate = (Unique Opens ÷ Emails Delivered) × 100
So, if you send 1,000 emails and 300 people open them, your open rate is 30%.
In this post, we’re focused on step one: getting more people to open the email. Without that, nothing else can happen.
Keep It Short and Clear
Most parents check their email on a mobile device. That means long subject lines get cut off quickly, and short ones might not say enough.
Best practice: 6–9 words or under 60 characters.
Too short? It’s vague.
Too long? It gets truncated, especially on phones.
Examples:
- ❌ “Exciting New Things Coming to Our Family Center Soon”
- ✅ “New Party Room Now Open”
- ✅ “This Week Only: BOGO Laser Tag”
Get to the point quickly. Your audience is busy, and clarity wins every time.
What Should Your Subject Line Say?
A good subject line doesn’t need to be clever; it needs to be clear and relevant. Here’s what it should convey:
- Urgency: “Only 3 Spots Left for Saturday Parties”
- Timely Offers: “Rainy Day Special: Free Jump Socks Today Only”
- Event News: “Trampoline Glow Night Is Back This Friday”
- Monthly Newsletters: Use interest-driven phrasing like:
- “What’s Happening This Month at JumpZone”
- “Your VIP Newsletter: March Events + Specials”
Whether you’re promoting a deal or sharing updates, the goal is to give people a reason to open right now.
Should You Use Emoji or Punctuation?
Emoji: Use them sparingly. One emoji can draw the eye without overwhelming the line.
- ✅ “🎉 Birthday Bookings Filling Fast”
- ❌ “🚨🎯🔥💥 YOU NEED TO SEE THIS 💥🔥🎯🚨”
Punctuation: Use exclamations and questions to add tone, but avoid ALL CAPS, which can feel spammy.
- “Need Birthday Plans?”
- “Book Now for 10% Off Parties!”
Know your audience: Try different types of subject lines with each campaign. Some guests may respond better to urgency, others to event announcements or special offers. After each send, check your open rates. Then use that insight to shape future subject lines, and the emails themselves, around what actually resonates.
Of course, once your subject line gets the email opened, you need compelling content to seal the deal. Great images are a huge part of that, and you can learn how to choose the perfect ones here.
One Line Can Change Your Month
Email marketing doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. In fact, getting your emails opened often comes down to a great subject line. Keep it short. Make it relevant. And always write with your guest’s needs in mind.
